Kurapika: Fancy a Game of Cards?

Featuring Kurapika, my favorite bishie from Hunter x Hunter by Togashi Yoshihiro. ♥

I wanted to start the year right (I actually drew this yesterday, January 01, 2012), and I figured I should be drawing my ultimate bias whom I've been neglecting to draw for quite some time now (mainly because I don't think my skills are enough to draw his gorgeousness yet). I actually got a cool but frowning Kurapika (with his chains) screen cap, but I just decided to go with a smiling one. ^^

I admit I had a hard time drawing Kurapika (just his face though), mostly because I love him and I don't want to mess up his lovely face. If I were drawing other non-biased characters, I wouldn't exert much effort in it, but of course, my darling Kurapika is a different story. I want to draw him perfectly even though I know I cannot, so what I was experiencing was mostly an emotional dilemma. ><

This time I didn't use guidelines or anything. I drew his eyes first and the rest of the face followed through. Afterwards, I drew a rough sketch of his hair then proceeded with the body and finishing it. I completed the hair last. This should've been a very easy drawing if it were not for my OC-ness in getting Kurapika right. I didn't have any problem drawing the hands (though they're my weakness).

As for the title, I couldn't come up with one so I consulted Butako. She answered, "Fancy a Game of Cards?", and I was like, "What? Why cards? It has no connection with the drawing." Then she explained that Kurapika was actually holding up a deck of cards here, so she thinks the title suits the art perfectly. My eyes widened. I honestly thought Kurapika was holding his Hunter license card (Forgive me for being such a baka) or a passport. And when I was actually drawing that rectangular thing, I couldn't even fathom what it was, and I copied it exactly the same as the reference photo. No matter how many times I stare at the original, I really cannot analyze as to how that object became a pack of cards. ><
